The Problem Nobody Talks About

There is a gap nobody serves. We do.

Federal law guarantees paratransit only within three-quarters of a mile of a fixed bus route. In the Tulsa region, that line runs roughly along the city's edge. Past it, in Osage County and the unincorporated areas beyond, a working-age adult who can't drive because of vision loss is owed nothing.

Medicaid transportation covers medical trips only. State vocational rehabilitation support ends the moment a case closes, exactly when someone needs the daily commute to a new job. Nationally, only 52.3% of working-age adults with visual impairment are employed, against 76.3% of everyone else, and half of those without a job point to transportation as the reason.

Vision loss is our anchor, not our boundary. We serve adults who can't safely drive because of a health condition — vision loss first and foremost, and also stroke recovery, seizure disorders, cardiac conditions and treatment that makes driving unsafe — across the greater Tulsa region and the rural communities beyond it. No one gets turned away.

A Dedicated Foundation Fleet

We're raising funds for two dedicated Foundation vehicles, so the cost of every ride stops falling on a volunteer's own car and insurance, and further out, working toward priority access to autonomous vehicles as that technology reaches more of the country.
